Aggressive Representation for Victims of Catastrophic Burns
When burns are so severe as to cause permanent disfigurement, widespread pain, and/or irreversible damage, they are considered catastrophic. Catastrophic burn injuries can occur in a number of ways; an industrial worker may be injured in a sudden explosion or fire, a passenger involved in a car collision may be burned if the accident results in a gasoline fire, or unsafe conditions may cause someone to become trapped in a building that is on fire. Regardless of how they occur, however, catastrophic burns are almost always life-altering for the victim.
If you or your loved one suffered severe burn injuries as a result of another person or entity’s negligent actions, our burn injury lawyers in Fresno, Stockton, and Bakersfield can help you understand your legal options. You may be entitled to financial compensation for your losses, including medical expenses, lost income, reduced earning capacity, and more.
In addition to Fresno, Stockton, and Bakersfield, our burn injury lawyers also serve clients and have offices in Los Angeles.

Types of Burn Injuries
There are several different types of burn injuries, categorized by severity:
- First-Degree Burns: Typically affects only the top layer of skin (epidermis), resulting in pain, redness, and minor skin damage at the burn site
- Second-Degree Burns: Affects both the upper layer of skin (epidermis) and lower layer of skin (dermis), causing redness, blistering, swelling, and pain
- Third-Degree Burns: Affects both layers of skin, as well as underlying tissue; often results in numb, blackened skin and tissue damage, as well as other complications
While any type of burn can be serious, third-degree burns are the most likely to be catastrophic in nature. The cost of treatment—which can include skin grafting and surgery—can be exorbitant and ongoing physical rehabilitation may be necessary. Immediate medical attention is often necessary to stop a victim of third-degree burns from suffering additional complications, including death.
What Losses Can Be Recovered in Burn Injury Claims?
Like other types of catastrophic injuries, such as brain injuries, severe burns affect not only the victim but his or her family, as well. If someone else is liable for the accident or incident that led to your or your loved one’s burn injuries, you may be able to recover compensation for your losses.
Each case is different, but many people who pursue burn injury claims are able to recover compensation for:
- Immediate and ongoing medical care
- Pain and suffering
- Current and future lost income
- Loss of enjoyment
- Lost or reduced earning capacity
- Emotional distress
If your loved one died as a result of his or her burn injuries, you may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim in order to recover additional losses, such as loss of love and support, funeral costs, and more.
