Fresno DUI Crash Sends Multiple People to Hospital

Torem & Associates

A Fresno DUI crash involving three vehicles sent multiple people to the hospital after a chain reaction caused by a suspected drunk driver. The incident occurred on the northbound lanes when a California Highway Patrol unit with its rear overhead lights activated was struck from behind by a Honda Accord in the number three lane.

According to authorities, the Honda Accord, driven by 28-year-old Jacob Perry of Merced, failed to notice the stationary CHP vehicle and collided with its rear. The impact propelled the patrol vehicle forward into a Chevrolet, initiating a violent spin-out that engulfed all three vehicles in the chaos.

The Chevrolet eventually veered onto the right shoulder while the patrol car and Honda were pushed across all lanes, colliding with the center divider. The driver of the Honda was unharmed; however, a Honda passenger, 26, sustained major injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries, and both CHP officers involved experienced moderate injuries.

All injured parties were transported to a local hospital following the Fresno DUI crash and are expected to recover fully. Perry was arrested at the scene on suspicion of felony DUI, receiving a medical evaluation at the hospital before being booked into Fresno County Jail. The authorities reminded the public of the dangers of impaired driving as investigations into the crash continued.

Liability When a Drunk Driver Causes Injuries in a Fresno DUI Crash

When a drunk driver causes a Fresno DUI crash that results in injuries, they can be held legally and financially responsible for the damages incurred. Under the law, driving under the influence (DUI) is considered a negligent and reckless act, which establishes the basis for liability in such incidents. Victims of a drunk driving accident may seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages through a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver.

In severe cases, punitive damages may be awarded to punish the intoxicated driver and deter others from engaging in similar behavior. These cases also highlight the importance of law enforcement and legal actions in holding drunk drivers accountable for their actions. Victims must consult with legal professionals to understand their rights and ensure they receive the justice and compensation they deserve.

Contacting a Personal Injury Lawyer to Help You Recover Compensation

If you or a loved one has been injured in a Fresno DUI crash, contacting a skilled personal injury lawyer is a crucial step toward securing the compensation you deserve. An experienced attorney can evaluate the details of your case, gather evidence, and build a strong claim on your behalf. They can also negotiate with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and represent you in court if necessary. Personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees.
