Greenfield, CA – Deadly Crash in Monterey County involving a Prius and tractor-trailer
GREENFIELD, CA – Following a deadly head-on crash, Highway 101 northbound in south Monterey County is expected to be closed until midnight.
Caltrans reports that Highway 101 is closed between Greenfield and King City in Underwood. There is a traffic divert on 1st Street in King City for northbound traffic. Southbound Highway 101 is only open to one lane, slowing traffic.
CHP officers were involved in a high-speed chase that led to the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol. Around 2:35 p.m., officers began pursuing the vehicle in the South Salinas area. A Toyota Prius was being chased by officers.
According to the CHP, the driver of the Prius crossed the median and hit a tractor-trailer head-on in Underwood.
The Prius driver was pronounced dead on scene and the tractor-trailer driver only sustained minor injuries.
