Sacramento, CA – Train slams into car, killing three and injuring more, officials say
SACRAMENTO, CA – An Amtrak passenger train and a car collided in California, officials said, killing three and injuring several others. This was reported at around 1:30 p.m. on June 26.The train crashed into the four-door sedan in an area without a signal or guardrails.
The accident occurred as the car pulled into a rural dirt driveway at around 1 p.m. There was no railroad crossing in the vicinity, according to a BNSF spokesperson.
Battalion Chief Craig Auzenne of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District reported that three women died and four others, including a child, were injured.
Two of the injured adults were taken to a hospital after being rushed to the scene. An injured child was taken to a local hospital by air, the outlet reports. The women who died were 51, 72, and 41 years old. According to fire officials, 85 passengers were aboard the train when it crashed.
Reports say that no one was injured inside the train. Fire Marshal Steve Aubert with the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District said that the area in which the accident occurred is “highly potentially dangerous,” and that emergency services respond to accidents involving trains and cars at least once or twice a year.
An outdoor fundraising event for a Brentwood resident who died recently took place 300 feet away when the crash happened. Firefighters were already on site to help a fainting participant, and several attendees fainted upon learning of the crash.
