FRESNO, CA – The Fresno Police Department reports that a bicyclist was killed after being struck by an SUV.

At around 9 p.m. on Thursday, police responded to a fatal accident at Shaw and Hayes. An adult male, possibly in his late 20s or early 30s, was found lying in the intersection by police. After providing first aid and CPR, officers pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The SUV was heading eastbound on Shaw towards the intersection at Hayes, which has a stop sign. According to the driver, the bicyclist attempted to stop on Hayes, but continued in the path of the SUV and was struck.

In addition to staying at the scene, police officers say the driver is cooperating with them. During the accident, investigators reported the driver had children inside the SUV.

Although the police do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role, they will continue to investigate the incident. At the time, it’s unknown whether the bicyclist wore any protective gear.
