Merced, CA – A man died after two vehicles, including a patrol unit of Merced PD, struck him
MERCED, CA – The Merced Police Department reported that a man was hit by a car and run over by an officer after it was reported at the scene. Police in Merced received a report of a man being struck by a vehicle on G Street, north of 18th Street, just after 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. The sedan was driving southbound on G Street when it hit the man before pulling into an alley nearby. Merced police responded to the call and struck the man a second time as he lay in the roadway.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
The Merced Police Department is investigating the original collision, and the California Highway Patrol is investigating the second. Merced police say the officer is on paid administrative leave while the case is investigated.
