Helendale, CA – Ten-month-old dies in head-on collision on National Trails Highway
HELENDALE, CA (February 19, 2022) – In a head-on collision involving a semi and a pickup truck, one person was killed and two others were injured.
The tragic accident happened on National Trails Highway and Hodge Road. The San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived at the scene and pronounced one person deceased and reported two others were still trapped inside.
As soon as firefighters freed the victims from the wreckage, they requested that two helicopters land in the roadway. A Mercy Air helicopter transported the truck driver to Antelope Valley Hospital, while a second person was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Emergency workers also reported that approximately 30 gallons of fuel that spilled on the right shoulder of the road was contained.
An extended hard road closure was requested for the National Trails Highway in both directions.
California Highway Patrol Barstow is investigating the official cause of the accident.
