Pinon Hills, CA (January 04, 2021) – One person died and another was injured when multiple vehicles collided after hitting a patch of black ice on Highway 138 on Friday, December 31st.
According to sources, the vehicles were traveling southbound along Highway 138 between Beekley Road and Phelan Road when the accident occurred at about 5:35 a.m.
A Toyota Sequoia spun off of the roadway, overturned several times, and came to an uncontrolled stop in a ditch off of the shoulder of the highway.

The driver was found unconscious and unresponsive in the driver’s seat. Despite life-saving measures, they were pronounced dead at the scene. The boy was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The black ice also caused several vehicles to lose control or spin out in the same area immediately following the first crash.
This accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Victorville Office.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.
Vehicle Collisions in California
Auto accidents throughout California claim the lives of more than 3,400 people each year. Although the majority of vehicle collisions are preventable, we continue to witness the impacts they have on families throughout our state.
