Sacramento, CA – Fatal Collision involving Police Officers on Hwy 99 near Dillard Rd
Sacramento, CA (August 23, 2021) – Both directions of a highway in Sacramento were blocked in south Sacramento on the morning of Sunday, August 22 after a fatal collision occurred that involved two Galt police officers. The officers, whose names have not been disclosed, were transported from the scene to UC Davis Medical Center for the treatment of major injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that collided with the patrol car lost their life at the scene, according to information from police. The incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. when a Dodge Ram pickup truck was headed south on Highway 99. The truck collided with a center median and broke through the concrete barrier. It then collided with the Galt patrol car head-on. The patrol car was headed north on Highway 99 at the time.
Two passengers present in the car at the time, including a 26-year-old from Turlock and a 26-year-old from Dublin, were moderately injured and transported to an area medical center for treatment. The police officers, a male, and a female required extrication from their vehicle by fire crews before they could be transported to the hospital.
Highway 99 was closed in both directions due to the collision and resulting presence of several first responders on the roadway. The cause of the incident remains under police investigation at this time.
