Visalia, CA – CHP seeks suspect in hit-and-run crash that killed bicyclist
VISALIA, CA – The California Highway Patrol is looking for a woman who killed a biker in a hit-and-run accident over the weekend in Tulare County. On Saturday at around 1:00 p.m., police were summoned to the intersection of Avenue 144 and Avenue 313 for a complaint of a car accident. When police came, they discovered a 25-year-old guy lying in the road with severe wounds.
Officers claimed that after conducting their investigation, they discovered that the man had been cycling when he was struck by a gray vehicle. The individual was taken to a nearby hospital where, according to authorities, he eventually passed away. After talking to witnesses they learned that a lady, later identified as Shay Dejonge, 31, was observed leaving the site of the collision in a 2012 Mazda.
A gray automobile with damage to the right front fender, windshield, and missing right side mirror was reportedly observed at a house on Hall Street, according to officials who were investigating tips. Officers claimed they were able to verify at the residence that a portion of Dejonge’s car that had been left at the scene of the collision had been broken off. Dejonge allegedly fled the house once officers knocked on the door, according to the police.
Investigators reported that despite looking all around the area, they were unable to locate Dejonge. The vehicle involved in the collision was seized for the investigation’s use of evidence.
