Porterville, CA (August 7, 2021) – Two people were injured in a car accident involving a big rig in Porterville on the morning of August 6, according to reports from officials in the area. The incident occurred on Highway 65 near Morton Avenue just after 3:00 a.m. for reasons still under police investigation.

Officers determined that one person had lost their life and three others were injured in the wreck upon their arrival at the scene. A big rig driven by a 22-year-old man from Delano was traveling south on 65 approaching Morton Avenue when he collided with a guard rail.

The left side of the diesel tank was damaged in the wreck. Diesel fuel was spilled in the roadway and the truck was then disabled, blocking both southbound lanes of Highway 65 south of Morton Avenue.

A short time later, a GMC Sierra headed south being driven by a 23-year-old Bakersfield man collided with the left rear-end of the semi-truck. The vehicle then came to rest at the center median.

Then, shortly afterward, a 2003 Honda Accord also collided with the big rig. The driver of the Accord, identified as a 21-year-old man from Porterville, lost his life in the wreck. A passenger present in the Accord at the time of the wreck also required hospitalization after the collision.

The driver of the big rig sustained minor injuries in the crash. Police in the area continue to investigate the details of the incident. The driver from Bakersfield was also injured and transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for treatment.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. Our thoughts are with those involved in hopes of a full recovery.
