Torem & Associates

Fresno, CA (March 6, 2025) – A deadly wrong-way crash occurred early Wednesday morning in southeast Fresno, claiming two lives. The collision took place at approximately 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 168 and McKinley Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Reports indicate that a vehicle, traveling in the wrong direction on the highway, collided with another car, resulting in a devastating crash. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find both individuals in the wrong-way vehicle had succumbed to fatal injuries. Their identities have not yet been released as authorities await family notifications.

Investigation Underway

CHP officials are working to determine the cause of the crash, including whether driver impairment or other factors contributed to the incident. While the exact details of the crash, including the number of vehicles involved, are still under investigation, the tragic consequences of this accident are clear.

“It’s always heartbreaking when a situation like this occurs, especially when the vehicle became engulfed in flames,” said CHP Sergeant Elvis Reynoso. “Unfortunately, by the time our units arrived, there was no way to extricate the individuals from the vehicle.”

The Danger of Wrong-Way Collisions

Wrong-way crashes, like the one on Highway 168, are among the most perilous types of accidents. They typically result in head-on collisions, greatly increasing the likelihood of fatal injuries. Impairment, confusion, or reckless driving are often factors in these tragic crashes.

For families who lose loved ones in such accidents, the emotional and financial aftermath can be overwhelming. Funeral costs, medical expenses, and lost income are just a few of the burdens that survivors may face. In California, surviving family members may have the right to seek compensation if negligence played a role in the crash.
