Highway 99 Collision Causes Traffic Backup and Injuries

Torem & Associates

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Highway 99 collision on February 19 resulted in a car overturning and minor injuries. The incident occurred just after 6 a.m. on southbound Highway 99, north of Belmont Avenue, when a pickup truck traveling at an unsafe speed rear-ended another vehicle.

CHP reported that the crash happened while traffic was already congested due to a car stopping in the center median with a flat tire. The traffic backup extended southbound Highway 99 near Clinton Avenue, as seen on Caltrans cameras at the time of the incident. Unable to slow down, the pickup truck struck the rear of another car, causing it to overturn. Both vehicles ultimately came to rest on the right shoulder of the highway.

Three drivers were involved in the Highway 99 collision, and minor injuries were reported. CHP does not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, attributing the accident instead to excessive speed in heavy traffic. The agency emphasized that this was “simply too fast in traffic.” The incident remains under investigation.

The Importance of Seeking Medical Attention After an Accident

After a car accident, seeking medical attention is crucial, even if injuries seem minor or nonexistent at first glance. Many severe conditions, such as internal injuries, concussions, or whiplash, may not present immediate symptoms and can worsen over time without proper treatment. A prompt medical evaluation ensures that any underlying issues are identified and addressed early, preventing complications. Additionally, medical documentation from a healthcare provider serves as essential evidence if legal or insurance claims arise, helping to support the credibility of any injury-related claims. Early medical intervention safeguards your health and protects your legal rights.

Common Delayed Symptoms in a Highway 99 Collision

After a minor injury accident, specific symptoms may not present themselves immediately but can develop hours or even days later. One common delayed symptom after a Highway 99 collision is whiplash, which often causes neck pain, stiffness, and headaches. Another frequent issue is back pain, which might emerge due to soft tissue damage or spinal injuries sustained during the accident. Headaches can also appear later, potentially signaling a concussion or other underlying injuries. Additionally, individuals may experience psychological symptoms such as anxiety, mood swings, or difficulty sleeping, indicating emotional trauma or post-traumatic stress. It’s essential to monitor these delayed symptoms and seek medical attention if they arise to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.
