Merced, CA – Police say a man died after crashing off Merced Bridge
MERCED, CA – According to the Merced Police Department, a truck driver was murdered on Tuesday after his vehicle smashed through a bridge’s railing. Officers were summoned to the Bear Creek bridge on G Street at 10:40 p.m. following a complaint that a truck had broken through the railing. When the police came, a truck that had been half submerged in the creek below the bridge was discovered.
According to police, they started performing life-saving procedures on the driver after removing him from the truck. The driver was eventually identified as 25-year-old Joseph Vasquez.
Officials stated that Vasquez passed away from his wounds on the spot. Vasquez had been traveling across the bridge when his truck drifted across the road and crashed into the railing, according to the police.
His truck crashed through the bridge’s railing and into the creek below. Temporary barricades have been put in place as technicians work to restore the railing because the incident seriously damaged the bridge. Until the bridge can be fixed, anyone traveling by foot or car is urged to use caution.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to the investigators.
