Sacramento, CA – CHP: A minivan rear-ends a tractor-trailer on Highway 99 in Galt, resulting in fatalities
SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Highway Patrol reports that a Stockton man died after his minivan rear-ended a tractor-trailer along Highway 99 in Galt. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Richard Jooha Lim, 42, was killed in the two-vehicle crash along Highway 99 just south of Simmerhorn Road. Around 11:50 a.m., a minivan, driven by Lim, was reported going over 90 mph in the far left lane of Highway 99, just south of Simmerhorn Road, the CHP South Sacramento Area Office announced Friday.
The minivan drove onto the shoulder of the road for a few hundred feet before striking the tractor-trailer parked on the right side of the highway. According to the CHP’s online dispatch log, the minivan was pinned under the big rig’s trailer. Smoke was seen coming from the crash site, and the tractor-trailer driver was trying to extinguish flames with a fire extinguisher, according to the CHP.
Upon arrival, CHP officers and firefighters determined that the minivan driver had died from his injuries. Lim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to the CHP. It was a medical emergency related to ulcers that stopped the tractor-trailer driver, a 50-year-old Arlington, Texas man. He was not hurt. As authorities worked at the scene to remove the vehicles, the far right northbound lane in the area was closed to traffic for about three hours.
