MADERA COUNTY, CA – According to the California Highway Patrol, a motorcyclist died after driving off a road and being thrown from his bike near Oakhurst.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a call about a motorcycle down near Road 221 and Road 222.

When officers arrived, Cal Fire units were on the scene. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP officers.

According to officers, the rider was traveling east on Road 222 at an undetermined speed when the driver failed to make a left turn.

The driver was forced onto the south dirt shoulder, ejecting the rider and crashing into a sign that belonged to the U.S. Forest Service, reports the California Highway Patrol.

At this time, officers are unsure whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

California Motorcycle Accidents

Over 15,500 people sustain injuries in California motorcycle collisions per year. Though it would be ideal for every injured victim to fully recover, this is rarely the case, as motorcyclists are basically unprotected in the event of an accident. More than 600 people are killed in motorcycle accidents throughout California each and every year

Fatal accidents have a devastating impact on families. In many cases, victims are left to grieve the loss of their loved ones while trying to come to terms with the fact that their loved one lost their life in an accident caused by the negligent actions of another person.

In many cases, motorcyclists are involved in wrecks with other vehicles operated by distracted, impaired, and reckless drivers. Although we can be vigilant to protect others who are sharing the road, there is no guarantee that other motorists are going to take our safety into consideration while driving. As a result, we see numerous people fatally injured in accidents in California that could have been prevented.
