Bakersfield, CA – CHP investigates possible DUI after a chase in northwest Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA – Police are investigating a possible DUI after a police chase involving a commercial truck on Friday in northwest Bakersfield.
Sheriff’s deputies received reports of a commercial truck pulling a cement mixer erratically in the area of Hageman Road and Renfro Road. Concrete bags were constantly thrown into the road by the driver. Police do not know whether the vehicle was stolen.
The truck was located at 7th Standard Road and Santa Fey Way, but the driver led deputies on a chase back into town near Jewetta Avenue and Hageman Road.
The driver tried to ram an officer on a motorcycle during the chase, but the officer was able to avoid a collision. According to CHP, the driver made a last-ditch attempt to cross a railroad track near Jewetta Avenue and Rosedale Highway, but the truck got stuck on the tracks.
After exiting the vehicle, the driver tried to run westbound along Rosedale Highway. Authorities said the suspects entered a few backyards before being taken into custody without incident at Mockingbird Court and Lone Oak Drive.
The incident did not result in any injuries.
Sergeant Richard Pierce attributes the arrest to community tips that helped them locate the suspect and the Bakersfield Police Department’s assistance in securing the perimeter.
