Victorville, CA – 4-month-old boy killed in horrific Victorville crash
VICTORVILLE, CA (February 08, 2022) – A collision early Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a 4-month-old child.
The accident occurred at 3:10 a.m. south of Palmdale Road on Interstate 15. An Apple Valley woman was driving northbound in a Hyundai SUV at an unknown speed when she approached a vehicle in front of her, according to authorities.
“She failed to slow down behind the slower moving vehicle ahead and struck the rear of it,” the CHP said. “After striking the rear of another vehicle, the Hyundai became disabled in the traffic lanes.”
She was struck by a vehicle that did not stop, and the crash is being investigated as a hit-and-run. The infant was sitting in the right rear passenger seat of the Hyundai. A half-hour later, he was pronounced dead at Victor Valley Global Medical Center. The woman was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. In the back of the Hyundai, a 4-year-old boy was not injured. It is unknown whether he was wearing a seatbelt.
CHP officer Mike Mumford said the crash was “devastating.”
Mumford said CHP officers are still investigating whether the infant’s child seat was properly installed and used. According to the preliminary accident report, the child was not properly restrained.
