California Pedestrian Accidents
Each year, approximately 75,000 Americans lose their lives or sustain injuries in traffic accidents while walking along sidewalks, inside crosswalks, and across roadways. In California, pedestrians are constantly injured in collisions due to the high population and high tourism rate in the state combined with the year-round warm weather. The majority of pedestrian collisions take place on the roadway while drivers are distracted or impaired. Sadly, driver negligence is the leading cause of traffic collisions in the United States, accounting for approximately 94% of all accidents.
Drivers may typically be distracted for one of the following reasons:
- Eating & drinking
- Talking/texting
- Utilizing radio, navigation system, some other type of screen/electronic device
- Intoxication
- Fatigue
Sadly, a large percentage of pedestrians injured in collisions end up losing their lives due to the severity of their injuries. These accidents often have an overwhelming impact on families who are left to endure the mental, physical, and financial challenges of an unexpected loss. When victims are killed in auto accidents as a result of another person’s actions, it is crucial that their families contact a wrongful death attorney in Bakersfield soon as possible.
Surviving relatives may be entitled to compensation to help alleviate the costs they face moving forward after enduring an unexpected loss.
