Fresno Co, CA – Teen Driver Killed in Collision With Big Rig at Walnut Ave and Jefferson Ave
Fresno Co, CA (August 26, 2021) – Shortly after practice ended, a football player from Washington Union High School was killed during a collision with a tractor-trailer on Thursday, August 26th in Fresno County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident took place at about 6:45 p.m. near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Walnut Avenue, just outside the Fresno city limits, less than two miles from the school.
Officers said a tractor-trailer heading northbound on Walnut Avenue ran a stop sign and crashed into a Dodge pick-up truck going westbound on Jefferson Avenue.
CHP confirmed that the driver of the pick-up truck, a 17-year-old junior and a defensive end on the Panthers football team, died at the scene.
CHP said the driver of the big rig was unharmed during the crash and has cooperated with investigators so far.
Alcohol and drug use are not a factor in this accident, which is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
