Bakersfield, CA – One Dead, One Seriously Injured in Truck Crash on Hwy 43
Bakersfield, CA (July 10, 2021) – A 61-year-old man from Bakersfield was seriously injured on Thursday, July 8th during a collision between two tractor-trailers in southwest Bakersfield.
The accident took place at about 5:10 a.m. on Highway 43 between Munzer Road and Panama Lane when a 1990 International tractor-trailer driven by a 42-year-old man from Laton was traveling southbound on Highway 43 he drifted off the righthand side of the road.
The truck driver then overcorrected, and his vehicle traveled directly into the path of a northbound Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by a 61-year-old Bakersfield resident, causing the two to collide.
The impact knocked the International on its side. It then slid down the highway and went on fire. The Peterbilt traveled off the opposite side of the highway and came to rest in an orchard.
The driver of the International was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Peterbilt was taken by ambulance to Kern Medical in serious condition.
