Deadly Bus Accident on Highway 99 near Livingston

Five people have died in the Bus Crash north of Fresno

At the time of this report at least five people have died in a bus crash early Tuesday morning on northbound Highway 99 near Livingston, California, the CHP reports. Officials say the bus struck a pole which went through middle of the bus from the passenger side of the front windshield. The CHP expects the death toll to rise and four people remain trapped on the bus.

The CHP says at least five people have been flown to area hospitals and there are other minor and major injuries being treated at the scene. Officials report that there were 30 passengers on the bus. The bus was coming Mexico and was going to stop in the Sacramento area, before heading to Washington state. The CHP has identified the driver as a 57-year-old Mario David Vasquez of Los Angeles, who has been hospitalized with major injuries.

Northbound 99 is closed in the area and there is no estimate when lanes will reopen.
