Fresno Semi Collision Traps Utility Truck Underneath

Torem & Associates

The California Highway Patrol reported a recent Fresno semi collision that trapped a Ford utility truck underneath after it was rear-ended by another big rig. The collision occurred around 4:10 p.m. on the northbound side of Highway 99 and Highway 41, involving two semi-trucks and one Ford utility truck. The Highway Patrol investigation revealed that a semi-truck had been traveling in front of the Ford utility truck,  and both vehicles had stopped because of heavy traffic.

Pinned Driver Freed by Firefighters After Fresno Semi Collision

Meanwhile, another big rig behind the Ford failed to stop, rear-ending it and propelling it into the other tractor-trailer in front. This caused the Ford truck driver to be pinned between the two semis, leading to major injuries. Fire department rescue crews had to extricate the driver from the vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital after the Fresno semi collision with critical injuries.

How a Semi Driver Can Cause an Underride Accident

Underride accidents occur when a smaller vehicle slides under the rear or side of a large truck trailer. Semi-drivers can inadvertently cause these dangerous accidents through several driving behaviors. Common causes of a Fresno semi collision involving an underride include:

  • Improper lane changes or turns can occur when truckers fail to signal or check their blind spots, leading to collisions with vehicles in adjacent lanes.
  • Sudden stops can cause trailing vehicles to crash into the back of the trailer, especially if the following distance is inadequate.
  • Poorly maintained or absent reflective markings and underride guards on the trailer can also contribute to these accidents by making it difficult for other drivers to see the truck or react in time.

How a Truck Accident Lawyer Handles Your Truck Accident Injury Case

Initial Consultation

The initial consultation is the first step in handling your truck accident injury case. During this meeting, the truck accident lawyer will listen to your account of the incident, gather preliminary information, and assess the viability of your case. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and understand the legal process ahead. The lawyer will explain what types of compensation you may be entitled to, such as medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.

Investigation and Evidence Gathering

Once the decision is made to proceed, your truck accident lawyer investigates the accident. This involves collecting evidence such as police reports, medical records, and witness statements. The goal is to build a strong case that clearly demonstrates who was at fault and the extent of your injuries.

Negotiation with Insurance Companies

Your lawyer will handle all communications with the insurance companies, ensuring that your rights are protected. They will present the collected evidence and argue for a fair settlement that covers all your damages. If the insurance company fails to offer an adequate settlement, the lawyer will advise you on the best course of action, which may include taking the case to court.

Legal Representation in Court

If a fair settlement cannot be negotiated, your injury lawyer will prepare to take your case to trial. Throughout the trial, your lawyer will advocate for your interests, aiming to convince the judge or jury of the extent of your suffering and the compensation you deserve.
