Fresno, CA – A drunk driver struck a police car injuring two
FRESNO, CA – Fresno Police Department reports two people were hospitalized after a DUI driver hit a patrol vehicle and caused a chain of accidents.
Just before 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, an officer was conducting a traffic stop near Tulare Avenue and 4th Street in Fresno. After a traffic stop, the officer spoke with two people who had parked in front of the patrol car. According to police, an additional vehicle drove into the rear of the patrol car as it traveled east on Tulare.
According to investigators, the impact of the crash caused the patrol vehicle to crash into the back of the vehicle pulled over. Since the officer was standing outside the vehicle when the accident occurred, he was uninjured. Both occupants of the vehicle that was pushed forward suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital.
According to officials, the driver of the vehicle that hit the patrol unit was driving under the influence.
Upon completion of an investigation, a citation will be issued to the 36-year-old intoxicated driver. Police said she had told them she didn’t see the patrol vehicle in front of her. According to police, the DUI driver did not suffer any injuries in the crash.
