Fresno, CA – 1 killed, several injured in Fresno County crashes on Memorial Day
FRESNO, CA – There were a pair of Memorial Day crashes in Fresno County that are being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
According to Sergeant Christopher Swanberg, the first crash occurred just before two o’clock on Monday afternoon in Sanger. A GMC SUV that hit a Jeep while going through a stop sign had six passengers. As a result, the Jeep hit a power pole, and the SUV went into a yard, hitting a car parked in a driveway. Swanberg said some children were present, but he wasn’t sure if they were ejected. Not everyone was wearing a seatbelt, he said. In addition to one SUV passenger being airlifted to the hospital, at least four others had to be transported by ambulance. Officers say they arrested the driver of the Jeep for suspected DUI while the SUV driver ran the stop sign.
On holidays like these, it’s crucial to buckle up. Be careful with your speed and at stop signs. Get home safely and arrive safely,” Swanberg advised.
One person was killed and four people were injured in another wreck across the county a few hours later. The accident occurred at the corner of South and Cherry avenues in southern Fresno County. According to investigators, a truck and a sedan collided, and the truck is at fault. A passenger in the truck died, and the driver and everyone in the sedan were taken to a hospital for treatment. The investigation is still ongoing to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.
During Memorial Day Weekend, the CHP had all its officers on the road.
