Fresno, CA – Five killed in head-on collision near Millerton Lake
Fresno, CA (February 01, 2022) – California Highway Patrol officials say five people were killed in a head-on collision near Millerton Lake on Saturday morning.
At around 4:30 a.m., the accident occurred nearby Millerton Road and Marina Drive. CHP officials say a Hyundai was traveling southbound on Millerton Road when, for reasons unknown at this time, it crossed into the opposing lane, colliding head-on with a Honda traveling northbound.
The collision was described as a “horrific, heartbreaking sequence of events” by CHP spokesman Mike Salas. The Hyundai was occupied by four men and the Honda by three men at the time of the crash.
During the crash, no one in the Hyundai was wearing a seatbelt, and one person was ejected from the vehicle. All four men in the Hyundai and one man in the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP officers. Two other men in the Honda were transported to a local hospital with “very severe injuries.”
“At this time, alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in this collision, but we are still waiting for chemical results from the coroner’s office,” said Salas.
