Fresno, CA – Two motorcyclists killed in multi-vehicle crash in Fresno County
Fresno, CA (January 09, 2022) – California Highway Patrol reports two motorcyclists died in a multi-vehicle accident Saturday evening in Fresno County.
Two men, both from Clovis, 54 and 25, were killed in the crash, according to officials. Officers responded to a report of a car crash involving two motorcycles around 4:30 p.m. on Auberry Road, just southwest of the Fresno Rifle & Pistol Club.
When the officers arrived, they found a motorcyclist who had been run over by an SUV, as well as another on the shoulder of the road. The men were pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation revealed the motorcyclists had just crossed into the opposite lane as they were passing two vehicles on the curvy two-lane road. Apparently, one of the motorcyclists lost control of his bike and ended up in the path of an oncoming SUV, causing him to be run over.
The driver of the SUV swerved to the left to avoid hitting the other motorcycle, but hit the pickup truck’s front end instead. Officials say the second motorcyclist tried to change directions to avoid the wreckage, but he struck the front bumpers of the SUV and truck and was thrown off his bike. As a result of the crash, the driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
While the motorcyclists were passing legally on a dashed line, officers claim it was a dangerous area because it is difficult to see oncoming vehicles along the curves of the road. Both men who died in the crash wore helmets, but their identities have not been released.
