California Truck Accidents

Large trucks like semis require more distance to stop than smaller vehicles and have a higher number of blind spots. These drawbacks, when paired with driver fatigue, may lead to extremely unsafe driving conditions which can result in auto accidents. However, truck drivers are not the only ones to blame. Many of these wrecks are the result of negligence on behalf of those driving passenger vehicles.

Some common causes for truck accidents in California are included below:

  • Negligent driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Intoxicated driving
  • Improper lane maneuvering or turning
  • Not giving enough turning or stopping space
  • Fatigue
  • Other violations of commercial motor vehicle laws

After you have been injured in a California truck accident, the first thing to do is seek medical attention. It is also important to, if you are physically able to do so, preserve and collect as much evidence from the crash scene as possible. This can include videos, pictures, as well as other pertinent information.

It is also smart to exchange insurance information as well as contact information with the involved truck driver or any other drivers who may have been involved in the accident. Call your own insurance company, however, do not provide them with an official statement until speaking with your own attorney first. In the event that you have sustained injuries in the accident, be sure to attend all necessary medical appointments and follow all of your doctor’s orders, especially if you wish to file a personal injury claim.
