Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California

Pedestrian accidents claim the lives of more than 900 people annually in California. These accidents have increased drastically over the past decade as more people are heading out to travel on foot. Regardless of the number of safety measures and laws put in place to protect those walking, jogging, and running along our roads, we continue to see people lose their lives at an alarming rate. In fact, the total pedestrian fatality rate in California is around 25% higher than the national average, presenting a real problem for our residents.

In many cases, pedestrians are struck by vehicles operated by distracted, impaired, and reckless drivers. Although we can be vigilant to protect others who are sharing the road, there is no guarantee that other motorists are going to take us into consideration while driving. As a result, we see numerous people fatally injured in accidents in California that could have been prevented. These accidents often have an overwhelming impact on families who are left to endure the mental, physical, and financial challenges of an unexpected loss. When victims are killed in auto accidents as a result of another person’s actions, it is crucial that their families contact a wrongful death attorney in California as soon as possible. Surviving relatives may be entitled to compensation to help alleviate the costs they face moving forward after enduring an unexpected loss.
